Nerd + Weight Gain Shake = Chick Magnet.
I’m trying to gain a few pounds over the next few months, so here’s what I’m doing:
Every night before bed, I make a homemade weight gain shake.
Nerdy Weight Gain Shake.
16 ounces cold water
2 scoops protein powder (chocolate)
2 ounces of half & half
1 raw egg.
Totals
Calories: 520
Protein: 83 gram
Fat: 13 grams
Carbs: 5 grams
Why do I call this a “nerdy” weight gain shake? It’s because I use MATH (gasp!) every week to change what goes in the shake.
You’ll notice I’m only using 2 ounces of half & half cream and only one egg.
There’s a reason for that.
Because the first week I start taking this shake, I gain weight with just 2 ounces of half & half and one raw egg.
But inevitably, progress slows. And when I stop gaining weight, I simply adjust the ingredients in this shake.
Instead of 16 ounces of cold water and 2 ounces of half & half cream, I’ll do 14 ounces of water and 4 ounces of half & half cream. Plus I’ll add an extra raw egg.
That should be enough to get the scale moving again. But if not, I’ll just keep increasing the amount of half & half cream, and adding more eggs to the shake. (Honestly, you can’t even taste the eggs.)
There you have it:
A nerdy weight gain shake.

Matt,
Maybe it would be better with hard boiled of soft boiled eggs, because of all the all the problems with botulism going around. A similar drink was used by Steve Reeves way back , in the morning for energy (and weight gain); of the drink, it sounds great, 2 cups of orange juice, 1 scoop protein, 1 table spoon Gelatin, 2-4 eggs,1 medium banana, 2 tablespoons honey. Use a blender – it’s totally delicious!! I use them on workout days and the energy surge is great! Like your idea, your tips are always good to those who listen.
Good recipe Bob. Tough to go wrong following in Reeve’s footsteps.
I’m not overly concerned about salmonella from raw eggs. I think it’s way overblown by the media. But just to be extra safe I only eat organic eggs raw.
I make myself a drink for breakfast that has:
1 glass of milk,
1 egg,
1 or 2 bananas
2 dates
teaspoon of honey
Churn the whole thing up!
I would not eat raw eggs these days unless you are 100% sure they are from a local, trusted source.
To follow, why not a 1/2 cup of egg substitute?
what is half and half
Because most egg substitutes have stripped out the fat from the eggs. And the fat is the good stuff — that’s what I’m looking for to boost calories.
It’s half milk, half cream. Basically, the stuff many people put in their coffee. You can find it in the dairy section at your local grocery store.
And if you’re looking to boost calories even more, you can “graduate” from half & half to heavy whipping cream – which is 100% cream. (More fat, more calories.)
This is one of the shakes I make.
8 oz. Non Fat Milk
8oz. Yogurt – Greek is best
One Banana
1 Tbl. spoon Peanut Butter
1 scoop Whey Protein
3 Tbl. spoons Honey
Blend and drink…
Hey i’m new the site and what a great site.
I may be a little slow but could you please break
down this drink to how it comes to 520 cal’s
Thanks….
I’m currently on double cream (which i think is what you american call heavy cream??), whole milk, coconut milk, olive oil and a scoop of protein powder + the occasional raw egg.
I remember gaining weight with this back at the start of the year but then got scared about all the fat content and backed off. wish i had kept with it for longer coz it tastes damn great and we’re always made to feel that if it tastes good, it cant be good for you!!
